Virginia State Police are still searching for a killer in the 2003 death of a Goochland County realtor. Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010, marks the seventh anniversary of the murder of Joan W. Weigelhofer and investigators hope the release of additional information in the case will help generate new leads from the public.
On Aug. 14, 2003, Ms. Weigelhofer, 59, was found shot to death in her Goochland County real estate office, Busy Bee Realty Company, located at 4119 Broad Street. Her coworkers last saw her alive at approximately 3 p.m. that afternoon as they left the office for the day. Ms. Weigelhofer remained at the office alone to finish up some work.
Her body was discovered in the office shortly before 6 p.m. Her killer used a .40-caliber handgun. Investigators believe Ms. Weigelhofer was familiar with her attacker, as there was no sign of forced entry and it was uncharacteristic of her to open the door to a stranger while alone at the office.
A passerby reported observing a late-model, dark-colored green or black sports utility vehicle parked in front of the office around 4:45 p.m. that day. The office is located just north of the Powhatan County lineā¦
The family of Joan W. Weigelhofer pleads for any information and is
offering a reward of $10,000 for information leading to the arrest
and conviction of the person(s) responsible for her murder.
An additional $5000 has been contributed by a close family friend
