Agnieszka Ziemlewski

On the afternoon of September 24, 1998, 26-year-old Agnieszka Ziemlewski was shot to death at the Metropolitan District Commission Reservoir property within sight of Old Mountain Road in Farmington. It was a crime that rattled nerves in Farmington and it’s neighboring towns. The West Hartford resident had been found gravely wounded on a secluded walking path. At the time she was shot she had been walking her dog. That afternoon she had left her job at United Health Care in Hartford and ran some errands. Afterwards, she went down route 4 to the West Hartford Reservoir to go for a walk, a routine she would do frequently. She parked her 1996 Black Dodge Avenger in a parking lot on the West Hartford portion of the Reservoir. Police believe her killer laid in waiting or was meeting her there. She was shot three times at close range at around 5:30 PM. Farmington Police immediately notified the public that they believed that her killing was not random. It was widely believed that she may have personally known her. Ten years later, Police still want to know if anyone that afternoon saw a a bright red compact car or a gray, white or a cream-colored two-door compact parked on Old Mountain Road which was about a hundred yards from the homicide. Ziemlewski emigrated to Connecticut in the early 80s with her two younger sisters and parents from Poland. She was a University of Connecticut Graduate and was an honor school student in high school. Her violent death shook her parents and her two younger sisters. Sadly, this was not the only tragedy to strike her family as her father died in a drowning accident a year after her murder. Homicides are rare in Farmington and according to Lieutenant William Tyler of the Farmington Police Department, Ziemlewski’s is the only unsolved one in town. Since Ziemlewski’s death, there has been no other murders in Farmington. Despite the passage of time, Lt. Tyler is adamant that the Farmington Police are not going to give up on this case.
