2-6-13 Update: One of the state’s most wanted sex offenders has turned himself in in El Paso.

Juan Alfredo Gamdarilla, 43, gave up to U.S. Customs and border Protection officers at the Bridge of the Americas Monday night. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Gandarilla said he didn’t want to be caught in Mexico.

Gandarilla was sought-after for failure to comply with sex offender enrollment and parole violation.

AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has added Juan Alfredo Gandarilla, 43, to the Texas 10 Most Wanted Sex Offender list, and a $3,000 cash reward is now offered for information leading to his capture. Gandarilla has a violent criminal past and is wanted for Failure to Comply with Sex Offender Registration and Parole Violation. Texas Crime Stoppers tips are guaranteed to be anonymous.

Gandarilla has relatives and friends living in Fort Worth, El Paso and California, and has been known to work as a cook, gardener and horse groomer. His criminal history includes Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child, Assault of a Public Servant, Burglary, Vandalism and Driving while Intoxicated.

On November 16, 1995, Gandarilla molested a 9-year-old female as she was sleeping in her bedroom in Fort Worth. He fled to California, but was arrested six months later and extradited to Texas. He was convicted of Indecency with a Child by Contact and sentenced to 20 years. He was paroled in October 2004, and has been a fugitive since 2005.

Gandarilla is 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 142 pounds. His tattoos include “Maria Ramon” on his chest, “Anthony 91” on his left arm and thespian faces on his upper left arm.
