BROTHER STABBED TO DEATH

SACRAMENTO, CA – A murder case turns cold, and now the family of the victim is pleading for his killers to come forward.

The sister said a group of strangers picked a fight with her brother before stabbing him to death.

“He was my younger brother, and we talked every time we had problems,” said Mora Som, the victim’s sister.

But now it’s been one year since Som’s brother Van Som was suddenly taken.

“He was at The Park with a few of his friends for a birthday,” said Mora.

That celebration ended in bloodshed when 23-year-old Van and his two friends were walking from 15th and L Streets into a parking garage at 15th and K Street. That’s when three other men approached them.

“They’ve never seen them before,” said Mora.

The men, according to Mora, wanted to fight for no apparent reason; and then one pulled out a knife.

“Who would go around carrying a knife? They had intentions to do something,” said Mora.

One of the suspects would stab Van and his three friends.

“We had hope because he was a strong guy,” said Mora. “We had hope.”

But after four days in a coma, Van would pass away.

Now, a year later, no arrests have been made.

“The detective said it’s not gang related,” said Mora. “We want closure, and we just want justice.”

It’s an apparent cold case that has Van’s family announcing a $5,000 reward.

“With him gone now, it’s a burden for all of us,” said Mora. “Now his son is growing up without a dad.”

Until someone is arrested, his family will continue to remember Van.

“I miss him everyday. There’s not a minute that goes by that I don’t think about him,” said Mora.
