More than a decade after the murder of Abbeville (AL) native, 50 year old Danny Paul Miller, family, friends and law enforcement are still looking for answers.
Two days before Christmas of 2001, relatives arrived at the 800 block of County Road 2 only to find Danny Miller lying in the front yard brutally beaten, barely recognizable and unresponsive. He asked about oil for a 1983 Chevrolet … then he shot and killed Dick Salmon.
That’s what Jackie Salmon believes.
Nearly six years after her husband’s brutal murder on a hot Auburn summer morning, Mrs. Salmon recalled the final events of her husband’s life. Salmon, 72, had owned and operated the SACO gas station at the corner of Opelika Road and Dean Avenue since 1962.
“I was on the phone with Dick that morning, and I heard him,” she said. “He was asking about oil. It sounded as if he didn’t understand what kind of oil he was talking about, but he was very well-spoken. Dick told him what kind of oil he needed.” Read the rest of this entry »

A widow still grieves the loss of her husband, brutally murdered in board daylight in Montgomery on April 8, 2010. It’s been a year since Bo Hudgens’ death and his widow says there are still no answers as to who his killer is.

Montgomery County (AL) District Attorney Ellen Brooks announced that a $5,000 reward is being offered in the 2003 missing persons case of LaQuanta Riley. Gov. Robert Bentley issued the proclamation following a request from the district attorney’s office.
Riley was 19 years old when she was last seen in December 2003. Brooks said that in a missing persons case, a reward can be requested if there is evidence that suggests a kidnapping. Read the rest of this entry »

Update May 28, 2011:

BIBB COUNTY, Alabama — The husband of a Bibb County woman shot to death 12 years ago in Brierfield has been charged with killing her, authorities said today.

William Jody Byrd was taken into custody at his place of employment without incident Friday, according to a news release from the district attorney’s office in the Fourth Judicial Circuit, which covers Bibb County.

It’s been over 12 years since the mild February evening when Desta Dodson-Byrd’s husband found her dead in their driveway. The 29-year-old former beauty queen had been shot once in the head outside their home in the rural eastern Bibb County, AL community of Brierfield. Investigators have never made an arrest.
In the years since her death, questions about who killed Dodson-Byrd have plagued her friends and family. Read the rest of this entry »

SHORTER, AL – VictoryLand COO Lewis Benefield pledged his organization’s support in the effort to bring to justice those responsible for the September 2010 murder of Shorter businessman Richard Carr, 65. The greyhound racing track’s financial pledge brings the total amount of reward monies offered in the case to $50,000. The announcement was made as Carr’s family members and friends attended the event at Rudy’s Country Store in Shorter, a business Carr ran for nearly a decade.Carr was shot in the head outside his home in the Hardaway community Sept. 3, 2010. FALKVILLE, AL — After seeing a Special Investigation, “Cold Case: Murder in the Snow,” someone close to the case is offering a $25,000 reward. The reward is for information leading to the identity and conviction of Joyce Drake’s killer.

Somone murdered Drake, a 20-year-old married mother of two, on January 7, 1970. Drake’s father ran a store in the Cole Springs Community of Morgan County. On the day of the murder, Joyce took checks to the bank to be cashed for her father. Read the rest of this entry »

The City of Troy, AL and Troy University are offering a Reward of $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the January 10th, 2011 kidnapping and attempted murder of a Troy University student taken from her residence located in Troy according to information released by Chief Anthony Everage.
