ASPER CO., SC Update Nov. 1, 2012  Authorities are now upping the reward to help solve a Jasper County murder case.

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, and South Carolina CrimeStoppers announced Thursday they are offering a $50,000 reward for information in the death of John David Huberty, who was found murdered in his home in the Levy area back in July of 2011. They’ve also put up a billboard on U.S. Highway 17 to get the message out.

They say they’re able to increase the reward thanks to an anonymous donor.

The Jasper County (SC) Sheriff’s Office is offering a reward of $25,000 to anyone with information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the death of John David Huberty.

Huberty was found murdered July 24, 2011, in his home at 150 Night Hawk Lane in the Levy area of Hardeeville.

A graduate of Hilton Head High School, he was a filmmaker, artist and designer.

Friends were asked to make a welfare check on Huberty when his family had not heard from him in several days. When the friends entered the house, they found Huberty and called emergency medical services, Jasper County Coroner Marty Sauls III said at the time. The sheriff’s office and coroner’s office were also contacted.

According to Sauls, Huberty had been dead for several days and an autopsy performed at the Medical University of South Carolina found a gunshot wound to the back of his head.

An initial reward of $5,000 was offered shortly after Huberty’s body was found and was raised to $10,000 in late October.

This investigation is being conducted by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division at the request of the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.
