URBANA, Ohio – The Urbana Police Division announced that they would offer a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for an 87-year-old man’s beating death.

According to police, Louis Taylor was found badly beaten inside his Dorothy Moore Drive home on Oct. 24. His 2006 Jeep Liberty was missing from his home and found later that day in Springfield.

“He was a good guy. He really was,” Tony Justice, Taylor’s friend, said. “It’s just sad.”

Taylor died on Nov. 17, 2011 as a result of his injuries.

Police said that they hoped the reward would move people with information about the crime to come forward.

“I sure hope that whoever did it comes to justice, absolutely,” Justice said. “I’m hoping now that somebody will come forward. Five-thousand dollars is a lot of money.”

The reward was being funded by money forfeited to both the Urbana Police Division’s law enforcement trust fund and the Champaign County Prosecutor’s law enforcement trust fund.

“The community’s hoping. It’s not just me. It’s not just his coffee buddies. It’s everybody,” Justice said.
