The family of a missing 90-year-old Burlington (NC) woman has increased the reward for information on her whereabouts to $5,000.

Ruzie Suggs hasn’t been seen since 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012. Her family discovered and reported her missing the following Monday and Burlington police issued a Silver Alert.

Suggs drives a white 2005 White Cadillac Deville with a personalized plate that says “Ruzie1.” She has white hair and brown eyes and is Native American She is about 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs about 100 pounds. Her brown miniature poodle, “Pierre,” should also be with her.

The family’s reward is “for any pertinent information that leads to her safe return,” family members said in a release. They had previously offered a $2,000 reward.

Shayne Suffern, Suggs’ nephew, hopes the increased reward will encourage more people to keep an eye out for his aunt or her white Cadillac.

“We’re at a loss. The detectives are professionals, so they know what to do. I just feel like I’m not doing enough,” Suffern said.

Members of his church have volunteered to help Suffern search if police pinpoint an area his aunt might be, he said.

Investigators are searching in North Carolina and also the South Boston and Clarksville, Va., area after cell phone records showed calls being made in that area.

Police think Suggs, who had mild dementia, might have become turned around in Greensboro and that she got on U.S. 29 North from Greensboro to Virginia. She normally took U.S. 70 to and from Greensboro. But one time in the past, she got on U.S. 29 by mistake and had to make a U-turn, police have said.

Suffern said Detective Mark Yancey accompanied family to Suggs’ home Monday night to check the woman’s answering machine. The machine was full and police recorded the messages in case they become useful in the case.

“We are still waiting and praying,” Suffern said.

Suggs was last seen wearing a brown jacket and blue jeans. She also wears glasses. She carries a clear cane and has difficulty walking. Suggs lives on Cobbside Drive in Burlington.

On the day she was last seen, Suggs had been to Mayflower Seafood with her friend Robert and dropped him off at his residence on Lincoln Street in Greensboro.

On Sept. 12, police contacted a nonprofit organization in Florida, A Child is Missing, for assistance. The organization can generate calls with an automated missing person message to specific areas. More than 900 calls were made to the area around Cobbside Drive in Burlington, Lincoln Street in Greensboro and in the area of Virginia where authorities traced her cell phone.
