Unique Harris was a 24-year-old mother of two who put her sons and niece to bed on the night of Oct. 9, 2010, and has not been seen since.

Washington DC Police are offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to her safe return.

Her ex-boyfriend and father to her boys is Raymond Cain of Richmond, Va. Cain was involved in a prolonged custody battle with Unique at the time of her disappearance, but he passed a lie detector test given to him by police and was ruled out as a suspect.

Valencia Harris asks for help in finding her daughter Unique Harris, last seen in her Southeast DC apartment putting her two sons and niece to bed on the night of Oct. 9, 2010.

Unique’s boyfriend at the time she went missing, 22-year-old Paris Craig, was working with the Job Corps in Virginia on the night of Oct. 9 and was also ruled out as a suspect.

Five months before her disappearance, Unique and her two boys had moved into a rough Southeast DC apartment complex known as The Courts. Her decision to rent the place was against the wishes of her entire family.

“I went and visited the area and I just couldn’t get a comfortable vibe,” Valencia Harris says in the piece.

“What you’re looking at is turnover – people coming out, moving in – renting the properties. Unfortunately, sometimes there’s a criminal element,” adds DC police detective J.C. Young.

The last call Unique received on her cell phone was at 3 a.m. on the morning of Oct. 10, but police won’t reveal whether they know who called, due to their ongoing investigation. Also, police are not discussing what they have learned from Unique’s two sons (ages 4 and 5 at the time) and her niece. However, family members who spoke to the children say the boys heard a commotion while in bed that night, and the niece thought she heard a man’s voice, but could not identify who it was.

Also of note, there was no sign of forced entry into the home, and Unique’s eyeglasses were left behind, which is something her mother swears she would never do: “When she was younger, I would always have to take her glasses off. She would go to sleep with her glasses on,” says Valencia Harris.
