The Macomb County man acquitted of the murder of his parents is offering $10,000 as a reward for information about the couple’s slaying in their New Baltimore home. The money from Ronald Jabalee Jr. will be combined with $2,500 offered by Crime Stoppers of Michigan.
A reward also was offered shortly after the killings, which occurred Oct. 6, 2006.
“This is a terrible crime,” John Broad, president of Crime Stoppers, said Monday. “After six years, it is still unsolved. We are asking people with any clues or information to call a tip into Crime Stoppers. Sometimes after years, people are more willing to call in with information on crimes.”
Jabalee does not want to speak publicly about his parents’ killing or his trial, in deference to his teenage children, Crime Stoppers spokeswoman Shirley Schuler said.
Ronald and Christine Jabalee, both 58, were found dead on their garage floor, bludgeoned and stabbed at least a dozen times each.
Christine Jabalee scrawled a bloody, undecipherable message on the floor before she died, investigators said.
A Macomb County jury found Jabalee Jr., then 42, innocent of first-degree murder during an October 2010 trial.
Jabalee has since gone back to work at the family business, RJ Meats in Eastern Market in Detroit.
“He has maintained his innocence from day one,” Jabalee’s attorney, Stephen Rabaut, said Monday. “He is hoping the New Baltimore Police Department and the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office continue the investigation of who murdered his parents.”
