The city, police department and Hampden County (Mass) District Attorney’s office are joining together to beef up a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the killer of Amanda L. Plasse.

District Attorney Mark G. Mastroianni, acting Police Chief Thomas Charette and Mayor Michael D. Bissonnette are to announce Friday they will add $10,000 to the reward. Plasse’s family and friends are already offering a $2,500 reward.

The announcement comes just before the one-year anniversary of Plasse’s death.

Plasse, 20, was stabbed to Aug. 26, 2011 in her third-floor apartment at 73 School St. It is believed she was getting ready to leave for her job as a waitress at Friendly’s at the time.

She was found dead at 4 p.m. by a friend.

Mastroianni and Charette have released few details about her killing, saying they do not want to compromise the investigation.

“We occasionally get something. Someone will call in with it or send a note,” he said.

From time-to-time new forensic evidence also comes into the department, he said.

“We are hoping that this reward and the benefit will get more people to think about it and come up with information they never thought of before,” Charette said.

Michelle Mathieson, Plasse’s mother, said she believes someone has information about her daughter’s death, especially since it happened in the middle of the afternoon near a busy park.

“I’m hoping at least it will bring more awareness to it,” she said.

Plasse has been described as an outgoing young woman who would help anyone, be it a customer or a homeless person. She was the middle of Mathieson’s three children.

As the anniversary of her daughter’s killing nears, Mathieson said it is difficult.

“It is one day at a time for us. We are keeping busy right now with the benefit,” she said.
