More than a week after a Hertz Rent-A-Car employee was shot to death, police are still trying to determine who shot the woman and why.

On Thursday, the car rental company has posted a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who murdered Ms. Monique Marlowe outside its location at 3492 Satellite Blvd. in Duluth, police said.

Ms. Marlowe, 24, of Duluth, was cleaning a car in the back of the business, which is near the Gwinnett County Transit, when she was killed between 5 and 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 21, 2012 Gwinnett County police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith said.

“Marlowe was approached by a young black male wearing a light blue shirt,” Cpl. Smith said. “For unknown reasons, the suspect shot the victim once and immediately left the area.”

It’s unclear how long the woman lay bleeding on the ground before employees found her and called 911 about 5:30 p.m., Sgt. Long said.

She was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center where she died later that evening.

The Hertz office is near the intersection of Satellite Boulevard and Merchants Way, next to the Transit Center’s pick-up and drop-off hub for bus passengers.

“Based on the time of day and location, investigators believe that someone in the area of the adjacent bus depot may have witnessed the incident,” Cpl. Smith said.
