Bradenton, Florida — The Bradenton Police Department has announced an increase in the reward amount for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the death of a 17-year-old boy.

On July 14, 2012 police say Fredrick L. Edwards was shot in the head and driven to the hospital by someone who dropped him off and then fled. Edwards died at the hospital and while investigators had a person of interest in the case, they have since said that person was cleared.

About 7 p.m., Saturday, a pink Monte Carlo pulled up the emergency room at Manatee Memorial Hospital. Edwards was found in the car with a gunshot wound to the head, police said.

Police believe the shooting happened about 30 minutes earlier in the 500 block of Second Avenue East, when someone fired at the car from another vehicle.

The Gold Star Club of Manatee County, Inc. has committed to adding up to an additional $5,000 to a previous Crime Stoppers of Manatee County reward of $1,000.

Detectives are still actively investigating the case and hopes additional reward money will help encourage someone to come forward.
