He asked about oil for a 1983 Chevrolet … then he shot and killed Dick Salmon.
That’s what Jackie Salmon believes.
Nearly six years after her husband’s brutal murder on a hot Auburn summer morning, Mrs. Salmon recalled the final events of her husband’s life. Salmon, 72, had owned and operated the SACO gas station at the corner of Opelika Road and Dean Avenue since 1962.
“I was on the phone with Dick that morning, and I heard him,” she said. “He was asking about oil. It sounded as if he didn’t understand what kind of oil he was talking about, but he was very well-spoken. Dick told him what kind of oil he needed.” Read the rest of this entry »

Friday April 15, 2011 marked the three-year anniversary of Joe Tex Johnson’s murder.
Two sisters share memories of their brother and the pain his death has left behind.
“Unless you’ve been in this position– you can’t imagine what it’s like,” Anelia Berry said.
“It’s like we are trying to regain some sense of balance to our lives,” Robbie Barnes said.
“Mr. Johnson was brutally murdered inside his home, probably during a burglary,” Hughes said. “Joe Tex was shot one time, and they executed him with a single shot to the head. I believe he knew his assailant. What we want for this family and Joe Tex Johnson is justice.” Read the rest of this entry »
