The Association of Orange County Deputy Sheriffs announced a $5,000 reward for information on the identity of a serial killer allegedly responsible for the murders of three homeless men.
In late December, 2011 three middle-aged homeless men, James McGillivray, 53, Lloyd Middaugh, 42, and Paulus Smit, 57, were found stabbed to death. Authorities believe that the same person committed the three murders and a task force has been assembled in order to track down the serial killer who seems to be targeting the homeless.
The Orange County Register explains that the only description available for the killer is from a surveillance camera that captured one of the murders. Though the footage is grainy, the suspect seems to be a male wearing dark hooded sweatshirt. The video also shows a white Toyota Corolla driving past the location about an hour before the murder happened.
The task force has set up road blocks, stopping cars near the crime scenes in hopes of gaining information about the suspect.
All three victims were believed to be alone at the time of the murders, so the police are advising the local homeless to stay in large groups or go to the shelters for safety.
