More than a decade after the murder of Abbeville (AL) native, 50 year old Danny Paul Miller, family, friends and law enforcement are still looking for answers.
Two days before Christmas of 2001, relatives arrived at the 800 block of County Road 2 only to find Danny Miller lying in the front yard brutally beaten, barely recognizable and unresponsive. He was transported to a Dothan Hospital and pronounced dead a short time later.
The Henry County Sheriff’s department and the Alabama Bureau of Investigation worked a large number of leads in the original investigation, but none panned out for them.
Sheriff Maddox held a press conference Thursday, July 7, to announce that the decade old Miller murder may be considered a cold case but was being reopened for investigation. He said, “The sheriff’s office has pushed the case back into the light in hopes that someone will come forward with a piece of information that may crack the case wide open.”
That same day it was announced that the Miller family along with Crimestoppers were offering a $35,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for Miller’s brutal attack and consequentially his murder. Then Friday morning, the family added another $10,000, bringing the reward up to $45,000. For nearly ten years Miller’s murderer/murderers have remained free as family and friends have mourned their loss and still need answers. The scary thing is that you could be shopping or eating with these people.
Sheriff Maddox said, “We are asking the public to help us. We are asking anyone that was here back in 2001 that may think they know something, no matter how insignificant they think it may be to call us and let us know anything about this crime, this homicide.”
Information can be shared by calling the Sheriff’s department at (334) 585-3131 or the Crimestoppers tip line at (334) 585-5200 or (334) 793-7000.
