LOS ANGELES — A $50,000 reward was offered Monday for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who shot and killed a 23 year old South Los Angeles woman in July.

23 year old Shaquana Watson and her cousins were parking their car on the night of July 27. Another car pulled up and someone opened fire. Watson was hit and killed.

LAPD investigators say the shooting was likely gang-related, and the intended target was not Watson but a group on the sidewalk.

No one else was hit by gunfire.

“She just happened to be sitting in the wrong place in the car,” said LAPD Det. Richard Arciniega.

Watson’s mother and other relatives appealed for witnesses to come forward Monday during a news conference at the Newton police station.

Arciniega said another purpose of the news conference is to remind the public that gang violence is a constant reality in parts of Los Angeles.

“Gang crime goes unseen because it doesn’t get the attention the same kind of crime would get on the Westside or out in the Valley,” he said. The shooter has been described by witnesses as a Latino driving a white Ford Econoline van with no windows.

Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at (323) 846-6556. Anonymous tipsters may call (800) 222-8477.

Over 13 years ago a man was shot to death outside a Tallahassee motel and deputies have never been able to find his killer
Albert Seaburg, age 71, of Elmhurst Illinois, was murdered at the Tallahassee Best Inn Motel, 2738 Graves Road, on September 4, 1997. Mr. Seaburg, a guest at the hotel, was killed during what is believed to be a robbery. He was traveling from Illinois to Fort Lauderdale to settle an aunt’s estate when he stopped in Tallahassee for the night. Michael McGuire, a 21-year-old white man, died Monday, June 14, hours after he was shot in the 2400 block of Louella Avenue in Venice, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
